Commercial flight operations at General Santos International Airport will resume on Monday, June 15, following the completion of safety assessments and repair works after the earthquake that struck the area on June 8.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced the reopening, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to fast-track repairs and restore airport operations as quickly as possible while ensuring passenger safety and convenience.
Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez said authorities have completed a comprehensive safety assessment of the airport facilities.
“Nagsagawa na ang DOTr at CAAP ng kumpletong safety assessment, and we confirmed na pwede nang ituloy bukas ‘yung commercial operations sa GenSan Airport para hindi na maantala ‘yung biyahe ng ating mga pasahero,” Lopez said.
The resumption of flights comes within the one-week timeline earlier committed by the DOTr following the June 8 quake.
CAAP also conducted coordination meetings with airline operators, airport stakeholders, and concerned government agencies to ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of the airport.
Passengers are advised to coordinate directly with their respective airlines for updated flight schedules and travel arrangements.
