DOST-PHIVOLCS on Saturday, August 29, warned of possible lahars, muddy streamflows and runoff around Mount Pinatubo and Taal Volcano as southwest monsoon rains continue over western and central Luzon.
The advisory, issued at 11 a.m., followed PAGASA Heavy Rainfall Warning No. 15, which warned that prolonged and intense rainfall could trigger non-eruption lahars from volcanic deposits around Pinatubo.
For Pinatubo, muddy flows may affect river systems including Sto. Tomas-Marella, Bucao, O’Donnell and Pasig-Potrero, potentially reaching communities in Zambales, Tarlac and Pampanga.
Around Taal Volcano, muddy streamflows and runoff may recur in areas previously affected, particularly in Agoncillo and Laurel, Batangas.
DOST-PHIVOLCS urges communities and local government units in identified hazard zones to closely monitor weather conditions and undertake pre-emptive safety measures.
