Members of the Solid Bloc 11 (SB-11) are pushing for Sherwin Gatchalian to become the next Senate President, according to a statement posted by Francis Pangilinan on social media.
Pangilinan said the bloc believes Gatchalian has demonstrated his ability to protect public funds, particularly during deliberations on the proposed 2026 national budget.
The senator noted that Gatchalian showed competence in ensuring that government resources are allocated to sectors where they are most needed.
Pangilinan also described Gatchalian as principled, capable, firm, and fair, adding that the senator has the leadership qualities needed to unite a broader reform-oriented Senate.
According to Pangilinan, Gatchalian could help build a more balanced and accountable Senate that may also gain support from some members of the current majority bloc.
He further revealed that incumbent Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano had reportedly expressed willingness to vote for Gatchalian as Senate President.
The statement comes amid discussions within the Senate on possible leadership changes ahead of the next regular session.
