DPWH COMPLETES FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT ALONG MABIGA RIVER IN BATAAN

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a 558.09-meter flood control project along the Mabiga River in Hermosa, Bataan, aimed at enhancing the town’s resilience to flooding.

Located in Barangay Mabiga, the structure addresses recurring floods caused by the Mabiga River, a tributary of the Colo River. It also safeguards farmlands, homes, and ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly during the rainy season and typhoons.

DPWH Bataan 1st District Engineer Erlindo Flores, Jr. emphasized the project’s importance for the community, especially local farmers who depend on agriculture.

“This structure promises improved safety and stability for residents and farmers, reducing the adverse impacts of flooding in the area,” Flores said.

Standing six meters above the riverbed and supported by a steel sheet pile foundation, the flood control structure is designed to ensure long-term durability. It also protects a new access road currently under construction, ensuring reliable transportation routes during heavy rains.

The P72.38-million project was funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act and forms part of broader flood mitigation initiatives for the region.
