MMDA: EDSA to undergo major rehab starting June 13

The long-awaited total rehabilitation of EDSA is set to begin on June 13, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) confirmed Tuesday.

MMDA Chair Romando Artes said the project, part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s “Build, Better, More” program, will include a two-year overhaul of the 45-year-old thoroughfare.

Unlike standard road repairs, this initiative will be a full rebuild to address EDSA’s deteriorating condition. Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon noted that while the project may cause heavy traffic and inconvenience during construction, it promises long-term relief for millions of commuters and motorists.

The government will also launch an information campaign to guide the public on traffic rerouting and construction schedules. As a mitigating measure, officials are eyeing the temporary opening of select Skyway sections to help ease congestion.
