ANGELES CITY – The Belen Homesite Elementary School in Barangay Sto. Cristo is set to become the first solar-powered, fully air-conditioned public school in Central Luzon, as Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. leads its inauguration on March 6, 2025.
“This is a clear testament that a clean energy program is possible. By shifting to renewable energy, we can protect the environment while reducing costly electricity expenses,” Mayor Lazatin said.

The school is equipped with 54 solar panels, generating 32 kilowatts of power to sustain its seven fully air-conditioned classrooms. Each classroom features two 2-horsepower air-conditioning units and a television set to enhance the learning environment.

“This project proves that we can improve the conditions of public schools with the right planning and support,” Lazatin added.
The Angeles City Government allocated P3 million to renovate classrooms, including new paint, tiles, and fixtures. The initiative was carefully planned and executed by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas, Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, the City Engineer’s Office led by Helen Ayro, and the General Services Office headed by Evangeline Malonzo.

Beyond schools, the city government has also installed solar panels in all city government offices, including Angeles City Hall, 33 barangay halls, Rural Health Units, and offsite offices. Additionally, 1,500 solar-powered streetlights now illuminate major and secondary roads across the city.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that transitioning to renewable energy will allow the city to save up to P100 million in electricity expenses annually, ensuring a cost-effective and sustainable approach to energy consumption.

“We need to maximize renewable energy for a more efficient and cost-effective future,” Lazatin said.
