Aboitiz Renewables strengthens Luzon Grid with Geothermal-Battery Hybrid System

Aboitiz Renewables, through its subsidiary AP Renewables Inc. (APRI), has introduced a specialized hybrid system at its Makban Geothermal Plant—combining battery energy storage technology with geothermal power to ensure grid stability and reliability.

“Through the Bay BESS Project, we are combining battery technology with geothermal power to strengthen grid stability,” said Ireneo “Irene” Itoses, First Vice President and General Manager of Aboitiz Renewables’ Geothermal Business Unit. “This means our consumers can count on a more reliable and steady supply of clean energy, especially during peak demand or unexpected disruptions.”

Itoses made the statement during the 6th Philippine International Geothermal Conference (PIGC6), organized by the National Geothermal Association of the Philippines (NGAP).

He added that initiatives like the Overhauling Reduction Days Program and the Bay BESS Project reflect the company’s mission to deliver “innovation with purpose” while helping power the nation’s progress.

Aboitiz Renewables, the renewable energy arm of AboitizPower, continues to expand its investments in geothermal, solar, large hydro, run-of-river hydro, wind, and battery energy storage systems — all contributing to a cleaner and more resilient Philippine energy future.
