Visita Iglesia, which means “Church Visit,” is a Holy Week tradition observed by many Filipino Catholics, particularly on Maundy Thursday or Good Friday. The practice involves visiting and praying in seven different churches, often done as an act of penance or spiritual devotion during Lent.
This sacred journey is a form of panata—a vow or promise made during Holy Week. Within each church, the altar is solemnly adorned, and the Blessed Sacrament is placed in a designated area surrounded by lit candles, inviting quiet prayer and contemplation.

As they move from one church to another, devotees pray in silence, recite the Rosary, ask for forgiveness, reflect on their faith, and remember the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus Christ on His path to the cross.
Visita Iglesia has deep roots in Roman Catholic tradition, dating back to the 16th century under the guidance of St. Philip Neri in Rome. Today, it continues to be a cherished spiritual tradition, bringing together families, friends, and communities in prayerful unity and reflection.
